Let's make it
Instructions.
- 1
Download and print the Outdoor Scavenger Hunt pack.
- 2
Choose the Visual Search page to look for 16 things in nature, or choose the Collect Version only where collecting is allowed.
- 3
For the Collect Version, bring a small bag or basket and collect only fallen nature treasures.
- 4
Check off each item as you find it, and let your child pause to investigate discoveries along the way.
- 5
After the walk, sort, count, compare, make nature art, or create a new scavenger hunt with any items you collected.
Safety tip
- Collect only things that have already fallen. Do not pull leaves, flowers, bark, moss, or other materials from living plants and trees.
- Leave mushrooms, berries, animals, feathers, animal droppings, and anything sharp or unfamiliar where you find them.
- Always supervise young children while collecting, especially if they are likely to put objects in their mouths.
- Check the rules wherever you are exploring. Some parks, preserves, and protected natural areas do not allow visitors to remove natural materials.
Skills hidden in a nature scavenger hunt
Searching across a large outdoor environment encourages visual attention and scanning. Picking up small fallen objects, walking over varied ground, comparing textures, and talking about discoveries create opportunities for fine motor skills, gross motor movement, sensory exploration, language, attention, and problem-solving.
Let kids lead the walk
The scavenger hunt is there to get the adventure started, not to rush the experience. Follow your child’s curiosity when they want to stop, look closer, or investigate something that is not on the page.
